Renascence Book Club will be meeting on Thursday, June 12th at 8pm to discuss The Revolutionaries Try Again by Mauro Javier Cárdenas.
Note- this meeting will be taking place @rand0m_sampl3's new location at 4904 Charlotte Ave !!
Extravagant, absurd, and self-aware, The Revolutionaries Try Again plays out against the lost decade of Ecuador’s austerity and the stymied idealism of three childhood friends—an expat, a bureaucrat, and a playwright—who are as sure about the evils of dictatorship as they are unsure of everything else, including each other.
Mauro Javier Cárdenas grew up in Guayaquil, Ecuador, and graduated with a degree in Economics from Stanford University. He's the author of Aphasia (FSG, 2020) and American Abductions (Dalkey Archive Press, 2024). In 2016 he received a Joseph Henry Jackson Award and in 2017 the Hay Festival included him in Bogota 39, a selection of the best young Latin American novelists.
