Join us for a screening of The Watermelon Woman (1996), the first feature film directed by an out Black lesbian. Blending fiction, archives, and documentary style, it follows Cheryl, a young Black queer filmmaker uncovering the erased history of a Black actress known only as “The Watermelon Woman.”
After the film, we’ll gather for a conversation on queer archives, desire, and Black visibility in film.
All are welcome, with space intentionally held for BIPOC voices to lead and be heard.
