Budge | Drook | The Sewing Club

  • Random Sample 407 48th Avenue North Nashville, TN, 37209 United States (map)

Charged with frenetic energy and yet laser-focused, Budge cook up a unique blend of power pop and shoegaze on their self-titled debut EP (out May 24th via To-Go Records). Singer-songwriter and rhythm guitarist Jessie Hopson’s songs about heartbreak, deceit, and resilience are anthemic yet vulnerable, recalling 90’s stalwarts like The Breeders or Built to Spill – but the production is refreshingly modern and urgent. Hopson and bassist Chandler Bostick attended middle and high school together, and the band officially formed in 2021 when lead guitarist/vocalist Jackson Berra and drummer Adam Miller responded to Hopson’s call on social media looking for more bandmates with similar musical influences. The quartet began playing house shows soon after, developing an air-tight rapport. In 2023 they released their first two singles – “Blame” and “Breathe” – which showcase the band’s dynamic range: the first a gorgeous, grooving ballad and the latter a more upbeat, overdriven rocker. “hrtstrngs” is their latest single and the first for the EP, which was recorded with Ryan Saavedra at Primary Color Studio in their hometown of Nashville.

Drook is a pop band from Richmond, Virginia. Formed in 2019, the group splices together elements of indie, rock, and electronica, focusing them all to a single point on their recordings. Drook’s live show puts this synthesis on full display, bringing energy and dynamism to the band’s musically diverse catalog.

Formed in 2019, The Sewing Club are Hannah McElroy (guitar, vocals), Stephen Meaux (guitar, bass), Justin Mckinney (guitar), Zach McCoy (drums, vocals). A shoegaze/indie rock project at its core, The Sewing Club began in the basements of their friend’s houses in Nashville, TN. The band is young, with only eight songs officially released on streaming platforms, all of which were recorded at Polychrome Ranch with Jared Corder of Repeat Repeat*. However, they’ve already secured a prominent position in their hometown's vital and burgeoning music community. In just this past year, they’ve completed a 60-day tour opening for Arlie across the entire US and shared the stage with acts like Otoboke Beaver, Protomartyr, fanclubwallet, Fleece, Charlotte Sands, Lowertown, headlined Third Man's Blue Room, and more. On much of their upcoming music, you can definitely hear the band’s influence from bands of decades past. Yet, this isn’t just a repetition of what we’ve heard. Instead, it's the manifestation of the thriving music community the band has grown up in and loves. The Sewing Club is a band that captures the essence of both the 90s and modernity. It's grungy pop that's sure to get stuck in your head.
